Understanding Timestamps and the Location Time Zone Setting in AXP

This article explains what time zone message timestamps in AXP are shown in, and what the Location Time Zone setting is actually used for. Key terms: timestamp, time zone, timezone, message time, location settings.

Summary: Message times in AXP conversations are shown in your own device's time zone, not the property's. This article explains how message timestamps work and what the Location Time Zone setting controls instead.

Permissions Required: All users can view conversation timestamps.

Brand Admin or Location Admin permissions are required to change the Location Time Zone setting.

What Time Zone Do Message Timestamps Show?

Message times in AXP conversations are shown in your own device's time zone — whatever time zone your computer, tablet, or phone is currently set to.

This means if two people view the exact same message from different time zones, they'll each see a different time. This is expected behaviour. AXP is not converting the message time to match the property; it's simply displaying it according to the clock on the device you're using.

🗒️ Note: If you set your device to a different timezone from your country, the timestamps on AXP reflects the device's timezone. For example, if you set your device as EST but you are actually in GMT, the timestamps will still shown as EST.

🗒️ Note: If you need to compare a message time with a record from another system, check what time zone your own device is set to first.

What Does the Location Time Zone Setting Control?

Each location in AXP has its own Time Zone setting, found under Settings > Locations > Details.

This setting keeps day-to-day, property-based features running on the correct schedule. It does not affect conversation message times.

Feature

How the Location Time Zone Is Used

Bookings

Determines whether a stay starts or ends "today"

Check-in / Check-out

Times reminders and status updates correctly for the property

Requests

Powers "created on" and "last updated" date filters

Today View

Decides what counts as "today" for arrivals, departures, and tasks

Marketing Emails

Scheduled guest emails send according to the property's time zone, not the recipient's device

💡 Tip: If arrivals, departures, or scheduled emails seem to be timed incorrectly for a property, check that its Location Time Zone is set correctly under Settings > Locations > Details.

You'll need Brand Admin or Location Admin permissions to view or change this setting.

Common Questions

Q: Why do two team members see different times on the same message?

A: Each person's AXP view shows message times in their own device's time zone. If team members are in different time zones, the same message will display at different times for each of them. This can also happen even if both team members are physically in the same time zone — if one device's time zone setting doesn't match their actual location (for example, it's still set to a time zone from a recent trip), their AXP timestamps will differ too.

Q: Does changing the Location Time Zone setting change how message timestamps are displayed?

A: No. The Location Time Zone setting only affects property-based features like bookings, check-in/check-out timing, request date filters, the Today view, and scheduled marketing emails. Conversation message timestamps always follow the viewer's own device.

Q: How can I tell what time zone my device is using?

A: Check your computer, tablet, or phone's clock or date & time settings — AXP uses whatever time zone is set there.

Q: Who can change a Location's Time Zone setting?

A: Brand Admin or Location Admin users can update this under Settings > Locations > Details.
