How Do Apple Wallet Keys Work?

Learn how Apple Wallet digital keys work in AXP, including setup, guest experience, and troubleshooting.

Updated today

Summary: Apple Wallet keys in AXP (Alliants Experience Platform) allow guests to use their iPhone or Apple Watch as a room key. When a digital key is issued, the guest receives a notification to add the key to their Apple Wallet. They can then tap their device on the door lock to gain access, just like a contactless payment.

Permissions Required: Roles required in AXP to perform this action are Front Desk Staff, IT Administrators.

Apple Wallet integration provides a seamless, app-free digital key experience for iPhone and Apple Watch users. Guests don't need to download a separate app β€” the key lives right in their wallet.

How It Works

Key Issuance

When you issue a digital key in AXP, the guest receives a notification (via SMS, email, or push) with a link to add the key to Apple Wallet.

Guest Experience

Once added, the guest holds their iPhone or Apple Watch near the door lock. The key works even when the device is in Low Power mode, and Express Mode allows access without authentication for convenience.

Key Management

Guests can view their key details in Apple Wallet, including the room number, check-in and check-out dates, and property information.
